This one has me stumped. I've handled hundreds of face jugs and viewed many thousands more. However, I've never see a face jug on the open market that has been left unglazed. This jug has at least been bisque fired, if not fully fired. It is signed on the bottom by Brown's Pottery here in Arden, NC. It was purchased from the estate of a prolific collector of Southern Pottery with a specific focus on face jugs. This jug was literally the centerpiece o...f the collection. Of the 80+ pieces of pottery on display, this is the only piece that had its own stand and spotlight. Clearly, it was purchased directly from Brown's Pottery, but the reason behind it escapes me. If anyone has an explanation, I would love to hear it. Please look over the pictures and ask and questions you might have. Reasonable offers are always welcome and always considered. The Face Jug will be double boxed and insured when it is shipped.
