Item History & Price
"Aesthetic Sea Life In Color"
-- Registered Design * Transfer Printed * Hand Painted * Antique --
Offering here a complex, poly-chrome, design, featuring organic forms and ocean fauna, including scallop shells and strange creatures, delicately printed in chocolate brown, and then carefully hand-tinted with FIVE colors (Amber, Yellow, Crimson, Light Blue, Royal Blue), upon a central creamy, buff-clay, ground.
A great example of A...esthetic Movement, poly-chrome, design manufactured by T. G. & F. Booth, circa 1885 (Registered No.# 26974).
Condition: Excellent This tile displays well with no blemishes to its brilliant glaze. The tile does not suffer from chips, cracks, glaze skips, design flaws, or reduced corners.
The verso (back) displays an early T.G.&F Booth bar grid pattern, which displays a stamped English registration number and pattern number. The absence of an embossed, or stamped, "ENGLAND" on the verso indicates this tile predates 1891, when Booth included it to comply with an American tariff law.
Booth never put their name and address on their biscuits, as they sold blanks to tile decorators and this would lead to confusion. So, they would stamp their tiles, if they wished to mark them with a registration number, pattern number, or the company name.
Please examine the provided high-resolution scans to determine each tile's exact state.
