Original Description:
Small early/mid 19th century linen and wool work sampler. Though undated, the style of stitch work would indicate this piece dates to c.1840 or slightly earlier. This little sampler is completely charming with fine quality stitch work throughout. The upper and middle sections of the linen are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, all underlined with a floral border. The lower section of the linen is stitched with a central floral motif which has a ro...sebush and tree to its left and right, then the whole piece is surrounded by an undulating green border.The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age and the colours of the wool are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when it was first stitched. As can also be seen from the photographs, there are Measures 7 1/4" x 11"
