Original Description:
Small late 19th century sampler by Gladys Blackham - 1899. Worked in wool on even weave gauze, this little sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout, The upper and middle sections of the gauze are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns finishing with the date of 1899,  whilst Gladys' details are contained within the lower section.The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places, and the colou...rs of the wool are good with some shades having mellowed more than others over the years. There is some stitch loss to the outer line border and the odd stitch elsewhere. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how rich the colours would have looked when Gladys first stitched it. Measures 9 1/2" x 10 1/2"
