Rare, old, Native American Indian natural turquoise Sterling silver whirling logs ( similar to a Swastika in form but not in meani...ng ) cuff bracelet, unmarked. This collectible bracelet showcases a bright blue-green turquoise cluster in the center of the cuff, with a heavy-gauge whirling logs symbol on each side of the cluster. The whirling logs symbol means "well-being" to the Natives, a good luck symbol. According to what we have read, whirling logs were originally used in Navajo sand paintings during healing ceremonies and other similar events. Sand paintings are temporary art, meant to be destroyed at the conclusion of a ceremony. These sand painting designs were also used in jewelry, rugs, and framed art, but the use of the whirling logs was discontinued, for the most part, since the Native Americans learned of its Nazi association. Jewelry with this symbol is usually from before 1940s (pre-WWII). The piece has 2 additional green turquoise stones adorning the terminals right above a cluster of silver domes and raindrops. All cabochons are set in segmented, hand-cut bezels on a recessed cuff with a thick square border. This old bracelet weighs approximately 151 grams! it's 1 1/2" tall and measures about 5 3/16" around the inside, from end to end. Add 1 3/16" for the gap. Very nice silver work and stones.
Note: One of the green square stones has a crack, but remains secure in its bezel. The center cluster stones are all in good shape, and in excellent condition for an 80+ year old bracelet. There's some unevenness on the alignment of the stones, not uncommon in older, handmade jewelry. Please see photos for details.
