CIVIL WAR SOLDIER IDENTIFIED CDV PHOTO 11th ILL INF 12th ILL CAV GETTYSBURG
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:24985535 |
Here's a CDV with a lot of major desirables: Military service as a musician from November 14, 1861, the whole way through the war and after until May 29, 1866; age 16 when he first enlists; and present at Gettysburg as a bugler. The reference to promotion to Bugler in March 1865 is incorrect. As his service records with the 1...2th Illinois Cavalry show, he enlists with that unit as a Bugler in March 1863.
CDV is signed on the back and based on his enlistment papers with the 12th Cavalry, the writing matches. Great studio backdrop with him holding his kepi where you can see the number "12" under a magnifying glass. Also note the interesting emblem on his upper left arm!
Eugene first enlists with the 11th Illinois Infantry as a Drummer in November 1861, but appears to go AWOL in March 1862. He reappears as a Musician with Captain Perce's Company of Illinois Militia Volunteers (30-day unit) in May 1862. After less than a year in March 1863, at age 17, he enlists with the 12th Illinois Cavalry as Bugler until he is discharged in Texas in May 1866! This CDV has not been on the market for 20 years! Also included are his military service records for each of the three units and relevant pension records.
