This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed " Tenshozan Tanrenjo saku 天照山鍛錬場作", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period ca. 1940 era made blade. The blade is traditional hand forged, made of anti rust steel, in original polish, shows fine scratches but no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy chusuguba with konie active ...temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight ko-mokume hada, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is sand finish lacquered metal scabbard, no dent, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping shows aged stains but no cut, no loose and in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. Tsuba and seppa matched number 43 stamped. It measures 28" tip to the guard, 27" cutting edge, 1+1/4" width, 7.5 mm thickness at the notch and 39+3/4" in mountings.
