Original Description:
Montblanc #4 Red Celluloid Pushknob Fountain Pen 1929. Pre Danish. 14C EF Full Flex Nib. Just Serviced with New Ink Sac. Fills, Works and Writes as when New.
Made in Germany 1929 to 1930 ONLY in this exact form. Ultra RARE 1st Issue. This wonderful pen is a simple JOY to use. It has one of the very best Montblanc Flex nibs I have ever used. Absolute TOP DRAW. ULTRA creative. For the writing Connoisseur. Can write ALL line width from Extra Fine to past Double Broad. A nib so creative its ONLY ...limitation is the imagination and writing ability of its user..... Grade A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Flex Nib.
Montblanc nibs DO NOT GET any better than this Hamburg 4 Nib!!!!!!!!! It makes a mockery of modern Montblanc Nibs. Pro verses Amateur truth be told. A Masterpiece.
The nib itself is a 14CT Hamburg Meisterstuck Grade 1 nib. These nibs were in production from  1924 to 1929. Then Montblanc changed its Nib imprints. So they gave a few first issue 1929-1930 Pushknob pens these nibs. After 1930 these pen were given Grade 2 nibs. After 1933 they were given mainly export nibs with Triangle logo and A, B or C for size (2, 4 & 6) those nibs are inferior still I would say Grade 3  nibs. So to find one of these Highest Grade possible masterpiece nib in this pen is beyond RARE. Factory Fitted 100% ALL parts original. To match this pen also has rare old numbering system of #4 on its Blind Cap (Tail End). After 1930 they were given numbers 11, 15, 17, 20, 25, 30 & 35 etc etc.. ONLY 1929/30 can be still a number 4 model.
The Duofold Style Pushknob or Button Filler system was FIRST introduced by Montblanc in 1929 and ran up to 1939 in Germany and a little longer in Denmark. (10 year patent license from Parker). These Filling system are childs play easy to fill with ink. Simply unscrew off the Blind Cap to reveal the metal push button/knob. Now put all of Nib in bottled ink and press the Button down ONCE then release. Wait 5 seconds to fill. Take nib out of ink wipe any excess with paper towel. Screw Blind Cap back on. Done....Takes less than 15 seconds. This filling system is also future proof. Most people can easily service this style of filling system and also at a low cost. However 1930 telescopic piston pens NEED professional service which can be A LOT more expensive. I just fitted with NEW Ink sac so should be good for at least 20 to 30 years before needing servicing again. Much longer than Piston pens that really need every 5 to 10 years new Cork fitted.
The pen itself is made of red Celluloid. This was also the year Montblanc 1st introduced Red Celluloid pens. Continuing on from their Red Hard Rubber tradition. This colour RED was later exclusively given to Danish Production pens. But this pen pre dates those.
The pen has no cracks, splits or repairs etc. Its Cap side and Barrel IMRINTS are as good as you will ever see. Especially rare to have clean barrel imprints. Only possible if never polished or even handled much in its life. The Clip and Rings are Yellow Gold Plated and also superb condition with only the very lightest of patina.. This Mountain Logo Clip is almost Mint condition and is Ultra rare to find at all let alone so clean. The Blind Cap (tail end) has # 4 and EF imprints. The pen has never been polished so does have light patina you would expect of a well taken care of all original. This pen has ALWAYS been looked after and never abused. It is a RARE survivor indeed. Find me another. Finally the Caps Screw in White Star logo top is also RARE to find in one of these Pushknob pens as by 1930 they were tapered and had smaller white star. This is the old school STAR style found on 1920 to 1929 pens including 1st issue Meisterstuck Pushknob pens and these 1st issue 1929-30 number 4's.. These Extra Large star are ULTRA cool. My favorite Stars. Made of BHR (Black Hard Rubber) and White Casein. Star has fabulous patina of age.
Beautiful pen. Even better writer. This ones worth breaking the bank for. Best Montblanc Nib you will ever have the fortune to use....A creative Flex writers DREAM. Superstar Grade.
Comes ready to write just add your favorite colour bottled ink... Perfect as a gift or treat yourself to a wonderful collectible fountain pen that can be used and enjoyed daily...
