Montblanc 4 BHR Lever Fountain Pen 1920's. 14C Full Flex F Nib. Ultra RARE. Mint. Just serviced with new Ink Sac. Works and Writes as when New.
Made in Germany 1925. Wow.. What an amazing Flex writer this chap is. A nib so creative its ONLY limitation is the imagination and writing ability of its user. One of the finest Montblanc nibs I have EVER used. A simple JOY to write with. Montblanc simply DO NOT make nibs like this anymore. To compare this pens amazing EF Flex nib with a Mod...ern Montblanc nib would be unfair. Pro versus Amateur truth be told.. In fact I would say this Nib is perhaps the absolute pinnacle of Montblanc Masterpiece nibs. Supermodel length Tines (Nib Fingers) are ULTRA rare to find. A truly beautiful looking nib. Perfect in design. Housed in a wonderful RARE Lever pen. I adore this pens Minimalist Simplicity. Very handsome indeed. Zero ostentation or Bling to distract the eye. Pure utilitarian design. Robust and built to last. This pen is ALL about the business of writing. Of which it exceeds expectation. A, Tour de Force.
This pen is a very rare LARGE Lever pen. Highly sought after by collectors as very few of these LEVER pens were made. Even fewer survive to this day. Almost none survive in this phenomenal condition. Bigger than a 1950's 146 etc. This fabulous rare pen is pristine. Looks to have been used very little if at all in its life. Cap and Barrel Imprints are so Deep and Easy to read they can be seen from the Moon :) (as when New). Tail End has 4B imprint. The Barrel imprints on MOST Hard Rubber pens wear away with use, polishing and age. Especially Montblanc Barrel imprints. To find imprints that are still perfect with zero ware is beyond Rare..! (see photo 8). This is a ClipLess model in that it NEVER had a fixed Clip fitted as was the fashion in Europe at the time. True writers pens..
The pen itself is made of BHR (Black Hard Rubber). Jet Black High Gloss with Zero Oxidation etc. Pen is beyond rare to find at all let alone so clean. Very handsome indeed. Pen has zero Cracks, Splits or repairs etc. The HUGE White Star Cap Top is made of Casein in a BHR surround. STAR is in fantastic condition with no crazing etc. Very rare to find so clean. Overall once in the hand to the naked eye this 95 year old looks positively New Born. Must have belonged to Benjamin Button :).
Of course the real STAR of the Show with this RARE pen has to be that sensational Extra LONG Tines F to EF 14C FULL Flex nib. Wow. As soon as this nib touched paper my Jaw hit the floor. Rare to have such treasure in the hand. Connoisseur grade nib. PERFECT nib with zero damage. Perfect Iridium tips are as good as you will EVER see. A masterpiece nib. Also the most handsome Montblanc nib I have seen. I love those long tines. To an avid fan of Nibs this beauty is hard to find. TRUE Eye Candy. Wonderful nib. Holy Grail EF to BBB flex nib. ULTRA Rare.
It writes with an Extra Fine to Fine line that has Extra Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. Ultra elegant writer. Perfect for everyday use. Zero paper scratch. Really quite user friendly for such a Fine nib. However this nib really comes alive the moment you exercise its wonderful Flexibility. It can flex from Extra Fine to Triple Broad on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. The Flex is also quite user friendly in that it is not Soft, Loose or Twitchy. Only flexes upon user command. Never by itself. Once commanded this nib delivers line width variation so creatively its simply Divine. As if forged by Zeus :)
Of course as with ANY Fine Flat Tip flex nib it is also VERY sharp like a Needle tip. A weapon. So, if you intend to write with this nib then some previous Fine Flex Nib experience is recommended. Such a RARE perfect condition nib should not be risked in the hands of a novice. You CAN NOT simply throw this nib around a page with carefree abandon whilst flexing on the up stroke etc. It WILL dig in then spray Ink Dots of protest until finally crossing its Tines like fingers in Hope more than anything of a reprieve from the butcher using it to finally let go and pick up a Ballpoint pen instead. However, in the hands of an experienced flex writer this thoroughbred nib will write so beautifully it simply leaves ALL the competition in its dust. A SuperStar Nib.
