A late Victorian long day dress for baby / doll dating from 1880s/90s.A fancy, ornate dress for best with lace bodice, big sleeves & a very widebateau neckline that just sits on the shoulders.Two small bretelles at sleeve tops, sleeves also have ruching & lace decoration. Voluminous skirt, gathered also at the back, so a lot of fabric here.Fastens with a ribbon at neckline & long waist ties, like a sash.Entirely & perfectly hand sewn, including five rows of pitucks... at the hem.
Quite a small size in the chest, despite the yards of lovely fabric, a smoothpapery cotton cambric. The loose back means that chest size could be increaseda little. Very strong & wearable by baby or doll, teddy.
Sadly this lovely dress has a mark to front right of skirt. Last two photos show this.It could be hidden in the folds very well. Apart from that in excellent condition, very nice white colour, shows only lightest wear, fresh & clean.
