Barn Find! 1949 MARTIN 000-18 Acoustic Vintage Guitar 6-string Plays/4 Repair!
Recently picked this guitar up from the original owners family. I don’t know much about it’s history other than it has been through a lot. If you are into perfect guitars that have been babied then this is definitely not for you! If you love guitars with patina and lots of character and stories to tell then this is definitely for you. I’m not a vintage guitar expert but here is my best description o...f the guitar.Let’s start off by saying that this whole guitar was poorly sanded by the original owner. Not sure why he did that, some parts are more sanded then others. It’s like he just went over it on some parts and then really tried to sand other parts. He sanded everything from the body to the back of the neck to even the damn pick guard and the fretboard. Luckily he did not sand the logo on the headstock which amazes me! Tuners are not original, the headstock has a sticker stuck to the back of it. The bridge looks original but maybe sanded down as well. But bridge might not be be original so see pics to make your judgement on that. The back of guitar has a few long cracks that were filled with some kind of epoxy. The bottom of guitar has a hole that was filled with some kind of wood filler. The top of the backing of the guitar is slightly coming apart (see pic) still plays fine as is but should be repaired at some point. One of the pieces of the frame on the inside looks like the top half broke off but again looks more cosmetic than anything. (Ask for pics on that if needed) The guitar plays, to me sounds beautiful, so would be perfect for someone who is willing to just accept it as is and give it some love!
