This is a great old slate roofing tool. It was used to cut the nails on a bad slateon a roof. Hook the nail with one sideof the head and pound on the flat part of the bend in front of the handle untilthe nail head was cut off, then remove the slate. It could also be done by going the otherdirection with the ripper. 9 inches of the tip were smoothed to make it easierto slip the tip of the ripper under the slate. There is an indentation in theside of the shaft near the ...handle end. It was not used very much as there isminimum hammer marks at the handle. Itis 30 ½ inches long.
