OBJECT// Antique Chinese museum quality rare gilt bronze Buddha, this marvellous piece of the finest quality depicts a seated Green tara in classic pose sat upon a Lotus shrine base, her feet are crossed in meditation, the face is superbly chiselled with a serene expression of reflection or contemplation, the painted and lacquered, the piece is completely adorned with intricate detail everywhere one looks, her robes are superbly engraved with floral motifs, his body is covered in jewellery inlayed with Turquoise stones, we see a mass of bracelets, armlets, anklets, necklaces, earrings and a highly ornate crown, all of this jewellery is not too depict material wealth but spiritual wealth, Buddha has reached enlightenment, the style of the object to my eye is pure Chinese in my view, very much in the style of the famous Kangxi Buddhas. The buddha has the most rich lemon mercury gold gilt surface, much of the original gilt remaining, we see traces of the original red & blue colour pigment remaining to her hair and reverse of the crown, the piece has its original base plate finely engraved with a four pointed Vajra (Thunder Bolt) It weighs a very heavy 835 grams, this is a very fine and important Buddhist spiritual object purchased in Germany from a private collection, part of a collection I will be listing this month, dating from the 18th century, Qing Dynasty object, genuine antique, superb colour and patina, serious collectors object.
