Exceptionally Rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1890’s Native American Sioux Indian Bead Decorated, Wool Trade Cloth Woman’s Dress with outstanding beaded hide yoke. This outstanding, late 19th century Sioux Dress measures approx. 44.5" long overall and 23” wide at the chest (arm pit to arm pit). The decoration is massive and beautiful - all hand spot stitched on a heavy buffalo hide substrate.
This wonderful Sioux Dress is thread and sinew sewn with a l...arge and elaborate, spot stitched beadwork yoke / bodice executed using greasy yellow, translucent red, cobalt blue and medium blue colored seed beads. There is a row of brass beads along the bottom edge of the yoke and the arms and the hem of the Dress are trimmed with lanes of white and dark blue, wool trade cloth.

This very rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1890’s Sioux Wool Trade Cloth Adult Woman’s Dress with bead decorated, Hide Yoke / Bodice is in very good to excellent condition. All of the cloth elements are well preserved and sound with some scattered small holes to the wool from insect damage and a few short tears at the sewn junctions. The beadwork is also exceptionally well preserved with no loss or damage. We can honestly say that the beaded Yoke / Bodice is one of the very finest examples of Sioux beadwork we have encountered over the past 40+ years and as well preserved as any beadwork we have ever encountered. There is some minor fading to the colors of the wool trade cloth trim to the arms and hem but overall this stunningly beautiful, late 19th century Sioux Dress is very well preserved and displays beautifully. All elements of the Dress are original and there has been no repairs or restorations – the Dress is 100% original and 100% beautiful.
