Up for sale, a 1993 Fender Telecaster '72 vintage reissue in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This early Fender Japan Tele was produced at the Fujigen factory and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. Marketed in the Fender catalog as model TL72-53, the guitar boasts classic black-on-black cosmetics, with a solid basswood body, one-piece maple neck, and the original "TL-Current" single coil pickup pair. The resulting tonal palette is balanced and clear, wit...h a flat-pole bridge pickup that offers ample twang and chime. The neck pickup is plenty warm, yet still articulate, with bell-like top end and a smooth response. The guitar weighs 8lbs 6oz, and acoustically has a nice sweet ringing quality, consistent with the increased acoustic presence of what is now ostensibly a "vintage" instrument. It's simply a great sounding and resonant Tele which has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and 9-42 strings.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with good shoulder, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret, tapering to .925" at the 12th. The original slender frets retain their full factory height, with moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5, and fainter wear until fret 10. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers, the neck is straight, and the truss rod is responsive and optimally adjusted. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The headstock features a '70s-style Telecaster block logo as well as original Gotoh tuners that turn very smoothly.
All of the electronics work as intended, and all original hardware and plastic part are present. The bridge features a trio of aluminum barrel saddles with patina on the bridge base, and the "Made in Japan" text is present above the four-bolt F neck plate. Cosmetic wear includes various dings and scuffs on the body as a whole, with prominent pick scuffing across the guard and a few marks behind the bridge.
This Tele is a rare and early example from Fender Japan’s most celebrated and collectable era of production.
