Antique Enameled 18 Kt Gold Embroidery Scissors French * 1785 Hallmarks This fabulous pair of enameled 18 Kt gold scissors is one of the nicest I've had. The blades are steel and the shanks and bows are solid 18 Kt gold. The inside of both bows have wonderful old French gold hallmarks, one of which dates it to 1785 (Tardy p. 75). Another mark is for Versailles (Tardy, p. 92) and there's a fleur de lis mark that may be a maker's mark.The shanks are enameled on both sides with blue ...and green quartrefoils and even though the enamel has damage, it's intact enough to see the wonderful quality and design. The blades have been inlaid with gold or gilded silver above the screw and are embossed with flower designs. The condition of the gold is excellent with no repairs or other damage and the scissors measure 3 5/8" long. The steel blades are tight with intact points and they cut very well to the tips. This is a super rare offering and I'm selling them for a long time French collector.
