AntiqueEnameled 18 Kt Gold Thimble English* Dated 1869 This antiquethimble is solid 18 Kt gold (tested and guaranteed) and is English.The band has super fineengraving that has been enameled in black. The knurling is in a diamondpattern. The cartouche isengraved with a script monogram E.S.M.and 1869. Thegold is in outstandingcondition with no holes, needling, or otherdamage. The enamel has some small nibbles but they're hard to seewithout a loop. It'...s about an American size 7 (14.5 mm diameteropening) and it weighs 5.0 grams. SeveralVictorian gold thimbles with black enameled bands are shown on p. 31 ofEstelle Zalkin's book Thimbles and SewingImplements. It became quite stylish to use black onthimbles and jewelry after the death of Prince Albert in 1861.
