Reference Number: Avaluer:27352671 | Featured Refinements: Antique Spool Cabinet |
Measures approx.
23 1/4" wide
17 1/2" deep
17 inches tallDamage or missing:Trim piece missing on back.Top is warped with a back corner chip missing. There was some kind of boring bug that put tiny holes in the wood which only adds character in my opinion.Overall the piece has great character and definitely shows it's age. Flaking on the Gold and black paint inside the original glass windows but still has quite a bit left please see pics....No broken glass!!One knob Front is missing. I believe the knobs are brass! When I purchased the piece it was very dry and dirty cabinet.
I used Murphy's oil soap and gave it a light coat of 2/1 boiled linseed oil and paint thinner which darkened it up and really brought out the wood.
The wood is possibly cherry with veneered fronts and rough oak interiors.
Drawers are all dove tailed together. The piece was definitely used alot it shows a lot of wear and use for sure but still has a great old look to it.
The top is fixable. The piece came from a local auction house.Additional information from a Historian.
Please read. So interesting!

Your cabinet was made between @1882 and @1892 in Pulaski NY at the Charles Tollner & Sons Factory. The factory was operated by the Tollners from @ 1872 to 1902. They did box works for Goodyear, R.H.Macy, Woolworth's, Coats & Clark threads, early on tools for Steinway pianos, Cluett & Peabody, Montgomery Ward's. Your handles are very likely brass. Your cabinet is an earlier version of a Coats & Clarks Spool/ Thread Cabinet. (Not to be confused with the higher volume production models c. 1900- 1920.)Richard Tollner
