A very rare early map of Suffolk. Although Blaeu's county atlas of 1645 was the first of England and Wales to be published in Amsterdam
its maps were no...t the first of the counties to be engraved and published there. That honour goes to Jan Jansson who produced
an incomplete series of British county maps which were published, as loose sheets and occasionally bound
into more general atlases, prior to his own complete atlas of British maps in 1646. Each map was finely engraved but was
amended for the atlas publication of 1646, many with the addition of coats of arms, alteration of decorative features
or cartouches or re-naming of the county, from vernacular English to Latin or vice versa.
This map is a fine example of a rare collectors map.
