Original Description:
We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currentlylisted along with an equally large number of music boxes and other verynice collectibles.  Be sure to have a look at our other items! This is an absolutely breathtaking antique cuckoo clock that was produced about 150 years ago in the Black Forest of Germany.  This style is often referred to as a Bahnhausle (Train House) clock or Railroad clock since it was the German railroads who initially commissioned t...wo of them in an effort to create a common design for use in their railroad stations around the 1850's.  However, this is also the first style of Black Forest wall clock to incorporate the cuckoo bird and sound; hence, the cuckoo clock.  This clock is quite nice and it still works quite well here.  It is an impressive size too measuring about 14" high (from the tip of the leaves on the upper frame to the bottom of the finial on the bottom and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6 1/2" or so at its deepest point, and about 14" across the top.  The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden woodthat is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the BlackForest.  It has a beautiful mahogany finish and features deeply carved fancy fret work hanging from the roof eaves on either side of the case, fancy round wooden finials on the lower frame, and a carved escutcheon on the left and right eave. The clock has fancy inlay under the roof eave, more down either side of the dial, and yet another inlay across the bottom. There is a fancy deep carving on the left side of the lower frame and on the right too.  More fancy deep carvings as per grapevines are found on either side of the dial and around the hand carved wooden door above the dial.  This is a breathtaking clock and some of the nicest carvings I've seen; 8 deeply carved wooden grape leaves in all and another is found on the custom-designed wooden pendulum too.  The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy hands to point out the time.  The numbers are the old style and nailed on to the dial, not glued on.  There is a hinged wooden door on either side of the case.  These are secured with a metal latch and open easily to allow access to the clock movement should any adjustments ever become necessary from this angle.  The clock does not have a back so it's easy to access the early style weight driven movement.  A weight driven movementsimply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind theclock and cuckoo activity.  The tall wooden bellow whistle tubes are in goodshape and the tops look and sound good too.  At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wooden bird with flapping wings opens the fancy wooden door above the dial and stands in thedoorway.  He gives off a single cuckoo sound and then retreats back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him.  The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctlycuckoos the current number of hours before going back inside the clock and closes the door; fascinating!  The clock works quite wellhere, cuckoos as it should, and keeps good time too.  Keep in mind this is an old clock and we do not know the service history though the movement does show signs of having been maintained over the years.  Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its newhome.  We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years.  Doing so will preservethis classic clock and keep it running strong for years to come.  The clock comescomplete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a large carved grape leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metalweights.  I've looked the clock over fairly well and noted only modest wear.  There may be some missing pieces on the case but I think this clock is gorgeous on display the way it is!  This clock is one of the finer examples of Black Forest craftsmanship I have seen in a very long time.  No matter where you display it in yourhome or office, it will get noticed for its uniqueness, high quality, and just Wow!  I have no doubt that you will absolutely love this rare, antique German timepiece so bid with all confidence.  You won't find another quite like it!If you like this item and I'm sure you do, then I know you'lllove the other items we have listed!  Check backfrequently since we're listing a lot of antique/vintage items as timeallows! We're selling this item and everything else we list with No Reserve, AS-IS, No Returns or Refunds, and a low starting bid so that everyone hasan equal chance to own this rare cuckoo clock!  We'd be glad tosend more pictures if available; just ask!  My wife and Ihave been accumulating lots of nice antiques and other collectorsitems over the years.  But now is a good time to start clearingout the things we no longer wish to keep.  We will givethe money we raise from ebay sales to a ministry we support that ishelping to construct orphan homes and schools in Kenya and China,  andlending assistance to disaster victims like those in Israel.  It's just something we have a passion for andthis is where your money will go once you have paid for thisitem.  We do all that we can to accurately describe each item tothe best of our ability.  Our terms are fairly simple: payment is due onor before the 3rd day following the close of sale.  The winningbidder will be sent an invoice following the close of sale through EBAYCheckout.  Buyer is to pay for shipping and handling.  We generally ship by the US Postal Serviceand sometimes by Federal Express.  An international buyer will payadditional postage and is encouraged to get a shipping estimate from us priorto the close of auction.  In most cases, payment can be made by VISA orMasterCard by calling our office or through Pay Pal in USfunds.  Please note that all transactions will be given theappropriate feedback.  Bid often and have Fun!Be sure to add commits to your favorites list!
