This beautiful camera is exactly what you have been waiting for! Have you always wanted to try your hand at tintype photography but were shocked at the EXTREME prices being asked for custom made cameras or worse yet, badly converted beat up antiques? Or are you a veteran at the process and am tired of not having a nice little purpose built wet plate camera to work with? Well, this little work horse was designed specifically with you in mind!

The Kinsey is the perfect camera for beginners and veterans alike, offering you an affordable option for creating some amazing wet plate images.
This camera is custom designed and privately manufactured. Styled after the classic early sliding-box style Daguerreotype cameras, the Kinsey is formatted in 4x5, but of course can be made to shoot any image size up to 5x5 with the proper plate holder (available separately). The focus is accomplished by simply loosening the brass knob on the tail and sliding the carriage forward or backwards until the image is in focus on the focus glass. Tightening the brass knob locks the camera focus in place. Simply remove the focus glass via the two hook clasps and replace with the plate holder for the exposure.
The craftsmanship on this camera is wonderful, with lap joints throughout and careful consideration to all tolerances. It has a simple clear coat finish that gives it a satin finish throughout. On the underside of the tailboard is a 1/4-20 socket (standard for most all tripod bolts) so the Kinsey can be sturdily attached to just about any tripod out there, antique or modern.
The plate holder features an innovative magnetic designs for closure, utilizing rare earth magnets. This means there are no hinges to loosen or break, no awkward clasps or hooks to hold the lid shut and no plate holder door in your way when you prepare your plate. Simply place your sensitized plate in the holder and place the lid on and SNAP! It rest solidly in place and with the use of the backing plate (included) holds your standard trophy aluminum or japanned iron plate in place. Want to shoot Ambrotypes? Just set aside the backing plate and the Kinsey's plate holder can hold your 1/8th inch glass plate with ease.
This camera does not come with a lens but a great number of options are out there. The camera does come with two blank lens boards so that you can fit whatever you like to it. We can also cut the mounting hole in the lens boards if you already have a lens in mind, just let us know what you need and we can accommodate at no additional charge.

The camera measures 13 3/4" long, 7" wide, 8" tall. The Kinsey has a slide capability from 6" closed to 10" fully extended, so any lens with a focal length of 6.5 to 9 inches is ideal.
