The early California models were totally handmade and each one has it’s own features even if they are the same model, not two would be completely alike.
These are also the most valuable pieces in the whole Josef Originals Collection, this is where it all started....They not only belong in a Josef Originals collection but also they are great historic...al examples of early California Pottery as they are REALLY pottery in the whole sense of the word AND they certainly would qualify as museum pieces.
Masquerade happens to be one of the most beautiful early models created in California and she is quite Rare. I have only seen a handful appear and sometimes it was actually the same one appearing twice, in other words somebody sold one, a seller would buy it and then list it later.
Magnificent is the word that keeps coming to mind when describing it, the amazing dress with that luscious sculpted collar with all that gold is out of this world and the fact that it is all in a beautiful shade of creamy white with all those 24KT gold highlights as te only other color makes her the most elegant figurine that would generate a WOW on anyone seeing her for the first time, she has quite the presence.
Excellent condition, no chips or cracks of any kind, just the absolutely expected crazing that is characteristic to these very early examples of pottery...All normal as it should be, nothing that stands out or takes away from her display or value, in fact it is expected and part of the charm.
Measures 11-1/4" in height, has the blue “Muriel Of California” label on the side of her dress and also her “Masquerade” label on the bottom front which is hardly readable, only the “M” and the “DE” are readable (1st and last 2 letters)...These early pieces were not signed on the bottom it is just plain...I do have a photo, please just ask me if you need to see it.
As mentioned above, this is one of the most valuable pieces one could add to a Josef Original Collection..One that definitely would enhance tremendously and that is absolutely stunning displayed on her own.
