It's solid silver(tests 850/1000 pure) and isheavy and solid for its size (weighs 48.0grams). The only marks it has are on the base& thimble, a maker's mark I think. Itstands uprighton a seal base that is engraved with a monogram and a crown. KaySullivan shows several examples of silver compendiums in this style onpp. 15-17 of herbook Ne...edleworkTools & Accessories - ADutch Tradition. Shesays they were probably made in Germany and imported into theNetherlands. It unscrewsinto 7 pieces.At the top the thimble unscrews from where it covers two littlebobbins. Next is a flatwaxcompartment and below that is a powder shaker in two parts (so thepowder can be added). Belowthat is a needle case and then the seal. All of the sides are handengravedwith intricate zig zag designs. Thethimble is about anAmerican child's size 5 (13.4 mm diameter opening). Thecondition is excellent with no dents and everything screws togetherperfectly. It measures 4 3/8"tall.
