A very fine and rare turn of the century Continental (possibly German) silver tankard
in the 17th century manner.
Signed.
In gently tapering cylindrical form with beading.
Center with brilliantly hand carved acanthus crown, foliate framed
shield, containing crown, castle turret, serpent and sea gulls.
Cover retains the original reclining... lion finial, and
folded leaf thumb piece.
Shell crown caryatid handle, the upper torso
chained to securing rod fits into shield hinge.
Atop three conforming reclining lion feet.
In fine condition.Rich silver patina throughout, retains original detail.Minor surface wear.
This Continental maiden handle lion foot silver tankard is 8 3/4 inches tallandweighs over 41 standard ounces.
