For sale is a super rare plate made by Meissen in the late 19th century . It is extremely rare to find Meissen pieces with under glaze colored scenes and I could neither find a plate like this one nor anything comparable made by them. This is a normal size plate with the entire center painted with an under glaze scene of the holy family with their donkey in the center with a pond and some nice palm trees behind them as well as two pyramids and some more trees and buildings in the backg...round. Not sure why pyramids since as far as I know they never went that way but hey it looks great! :) The scene is extremely detailed for an under glaze piece and just amazing. There is a gold ring separating the scene from the white rim which makes this piece look stunning - enough for someone to frame the piece in a thick frame with glass in front in order to hang and display it on the wall safely! The cloth is a deep green color and fits the plate well and the frame a gold color with reddish highlights and a nice design to it. The plate is in great condition with no flaws though I will not remove it from the frame. It is glued into the backing with the underside center showing through in order to see the marks, etc. The plate is marked with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark underneath as well as an impressed number 57 and an incised script F223 and three under glaze black lines on the foot ring as a painter's mark. The frame is about 2 inches deep and 17.25 inches square. It has a tiny damage to one corner as shown easily hidden with some gilding if need be.
