Specifics & details :A ceramic bouc by Bitossi (Flavia) from the Rimini Blu animal series, designed by Aldo Londi. A classic vintage piece is highly collectible from the 1970's.
"Bistossi Ceramiche", the Bitossi factory..., is located exactly where it began, in the Italian town of Montelupo Fiorentino, located 20km from Florence, in the province of Tuscany, Italy. Both the city and the region have a long history of ceramic production which is known to have begun in the Renaissance era. The history of Bitossi began in the late 1800s, but the society really began to attract attention in the 1950s, under the artistic direction of local ceramist Aldo Londi (born 1911).
Aldo Londi designed the Rimini Blu range of ceramics in the early 1950's, gradually adding to the collection over several years. The collection, composed of vases and animal figures, is extremely recognizable. It is characterized by a beautiful blue glaze and surimposed which is enhanced with green and yellow. The deliberately irregular surface is in hand relief with geometric patterns and very distinctive interwined. Bitossi himself describes these two aspects as combining to "recall the movement and brightness of the sun".
Flavia is a company name Bitossi stamped many of its parts in this way from about 1976.
