Emma's name is stitched at the centre of the lower section of gauze with a floral motif between her names which has a fruit basket to its left and right. The whole piece is then surrounded by a floral border which is chamfered at the corners which then have a star in each of the upper corners and a bird in each of the lower. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age, with some light creasing, a few small dark stains and larger but paler streaks of staining, particularly in the verse area and around the floral motif, possibly old glue residue. There is also a small area of damage in the rows of alphabet letters and an old repair approximately two inches long running vertically through the last row of lettering. The colours of the wool are good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Emma first stitched it. As can also be seen from the photographs, there are small visible tack marks around the edges of the gauze from where the sampler has been tacked onto a stretcher or backing board at some point of time.Measures 12" x 18"
