Fine Antique American Pewter Basin, Samuel Pierce, Greenfield, MA, c. 1792 to 1830. This rare pewter basin is a very fine example manufactured by a very hard to find American manufacturer. This basin has a single reeded rim with a worn eagle mark on the inside of the bowl that reads, "SAMUEL" above and "PIERCE", below the eagle. The "SAMUEL" and the top part of the eagle are missing. This is the mark of Samuel Pierce, who worked out of Greenfield, Massachusetts from 1792 to 1830. This mar...k can be found in "Guide To American Pewter" by Carl Jacobs, page 145, where an 8" basin was valued at $75 back in 1957.
