The inkwell measures 9" (23 cm) long and 6 1/2" (16.5 cm) wide. The height at its highest point in back is 3 1/4" (8.3 cm). As you will notice in the pictures, this inkwell isn't symmetrical, a style that was very popular during the reign of Louis XV. One of the most popular design elements in the 18th Century in France was the acanthus leaf, which was incorporated into carved picture frames, mantel clocks and gilt bronze drawer pulls.
