I am selling a few items this week, including some very good quality knives. Thanks for looking. International bidders: eBay's Global Shipping Program covers only about 1% of the items I generally sell, so I will ship this to you by whichever method you prefer. Please note that PayPal require tracking from me to you, which is only available on packages to certain destinations for First Class/Priority, and only guaranteed with Priority Express Mail. If you do not choose Priori...ty Express, I cannot provide any help if your package is lost, stolen or held at Customs forever. By bidding on my auction and not choosing Priority Express Mail, you are agreeing not to hold me liable if anything happens to your package if it doesn't make it. It doesn't happen often, but it could, and you must understand the risk before you place a bid. I have excluded certain locations that have been problems in the past, and I do not ship to the Russian Federation. Thanks for your understanding. This is a scarce old knife sharpener or honing steel from Adolph Blaich, manufactured under the Arrow Brand trademark. According to Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values, 4th Ed., the brand was only used from about 1893 until 1915. Blaich was an agent for J.S. Holler & Co., as well as an importer of pretty high end cutlery made in Germany, and later on for Western States Cutlery Co. It's a great old brand, and in this case, a century old or older steel. It has a turned wood handle, beehive pattern, with brass guard, ferrule, and hanger ring. The brass ferrule is banged up, mostly on one side, and there is some verdigris along its edges. The rod is carbon steel, and shows lots of use. It is dark, has some areas that look like some grease or fat from blades may have hardened onto the surface (especially near the tip), and there are numerous nicks and scratches along the length of the rod. I'm pretty sure the rod can be cleaned up, but I left it alone so you can decide for yourself. I would say this one is more of a display piece than a user, but not many other people are going to have one like it. Tip is magnetic. It is stamped near the guard "ARROW (symbol) BRAND / Adolph Blaich / San Francisco" and farther around the rod with "Made in Germany." Measures 17-3/4" overall including pommel but not hanger ring, 12-1/4" from tip to front of guard. Weighs about 13 ounces without any packaging, so it will come in a bit over 1 pound for shipping. Contact me if you have any questions. I will combine shipping if you buy/win multiple items. If using Buy-It-Now with items that offer that option, please put all items into Shopping Cart before checking out. Thanks very much.
