Wards Master 10" Hand Brace Same as Stanley 813 Excellent ConditionThis Montgomery Wards Master 10" hand drill was made by Stanley for Montgomery Wards and is identical to the Stanley 813. The Wards Master line of tools were the premium line of Wards hand tools. This Wards Master/Stanley 813 hand brace is one of the best heavy duty hand braces made in America.(see pictures). The 10" swing is perfect for normal drilling as well... as useful as a speed screwdriver. This drill appears to have been seldom if ever used and is in excellent near new condition. This drill was probably made in the 40s-50s time frame and this type of brace was found in home as well as professional tool boxes before the widespread use of power tools. It uses a patented "Lion" chuck making it able to readily handle both tapered older auger bits as well as the more modern round bits. (see pictures) This brace is in excellent condition and dates back to at least 1940-50s but is likely 20 to 30 years older. The chuck on this brace has been disassembled, checked for damage, and then cleaned, reassembled, and lubricated. (see pictures)It operates like a new one, solid and smooth. The ratchet selecting and reversing mechanism is solid and both the ratchet and chuck work as when new with a very smooth ratcheting action in either direction selected. Placing the selector in the middle position locks the chuck and stops the ratchet action. The chuck jaws are undamaged, in great shape, and work perfectly. (see pictures)Likewise the top ball bearing supported pad and the side handle are in excellent condition.(see pictures) These handles are in beautiful condition with the top pad having a few scratches/marks probably from storage.(see pictures) It still is in excellent condition with a a great grain pattern.(see pictures) The ball bearing supported top pad mechanism has been cleaned and lubricated and works like new. Other than a few minimal signs of very light use over the last 70+ years this brace is in excellent very lightly used condition. The chuck jaws are virtually unmarked which indicates a lot of storage time but not much use. This is a clean well cared for classic tool that is maybe not as collectible as the Stanley 813 braces, but it is a great heavy duty tool that will look and work the same and last for 100 years if you will put two or three drops of oil in the oil ports once a year or so. This brace's chuck will work with older square shank bits as well as modern round bits. (see all pictures) This tool is an excellent Stanley made brace that is identical to their 813. It would be a great addition to a manual tool collection or a great user for when the lights go out.
