Mabie Todd Swan New York PAT.PDG Blue Lapis Lazuli Celluloid First Issue Fountain Pen 1920. 14K B It Flex Nib. Very Rare. Just serviced with new Ink Sac. Works and writes as when new. Superb pen.
Made in New York, USA 1917-20s. First issue Celluloid Pen from Swan. What a handsome pen this is. Rare Senior LONG version at 14cm or 5.1/2inch capped. Beautiful Lapis Lazuli has perfect colour still. Zero discolouration. VERY Rare to find such vibrant Blue on these 1st issue. They often darken..., especially the Barrel. That was due to sulphur release from the Rubber ink sacs factory fit. Nowadays we use Silicone Sacs that DO NOT discolour Celluloid. So this pen will stay this fabulous colour forever. Simply stunning.
The pen itself has no Cracks, Splits or Repairs etc. The Swan, Mabie Todd, New York etc Barrel Imprints are deep and easy to read. Again VERY rare to find such clear imprints on these New York 1st Issue pens. Has, PAT.PDG (Patent Pending) imprint. The Clip, Lever and Ring Bands are Yellow Gold plated and also superb. Rare to find such a perfect Clip with no plate loss or Brassing etc. The Lever has the usual patina you expect of Swan lever pens this age. Overall once in the hand to the naked eye this pen looks fabulous. Considering it is 100 years old, I would say Amazing.
The 14C New York number 2 nib is in Pristine condition with zero damage etc. Its Iridium tips are good to last several more lifetimes. Writes with a Cursive Bold Broad Italic Down Stroke that has Fine line Side Stroke at normal pressure. Ultra User Friendly with zero paper scratch etc. This nib also has flexibility that allows for even more line width variation on the down stroke it can flex all the way to Triple Broad.
