It is a slab of REAL Onondaga Formation matrix with NINE(!) complete and partial Odontocephalu...s trilobites cast on it. This amazing masterpiece was created years ago by trilobite savant, the late, great Eugene Thomas. Eugene took a slab of real Needmore Shale from Pennsylvania (note the small fossils on the back of the slab!) and cast nine Odontocephalus on the rock. Eugene was a master of making casts, even creating a line of trilobite replicas for sale. If you didn't know better, you would think it's the real thing because of the real rock base. This is a ultra-cool "one-off" piece he made just for his collection. It is an unbelievable "death assemblage" that seems too good to be true...because it is!
