MODEL, YEAR, FEATURES: This 1950 Emerson Model 652 radio has a cabinet made of Plaskon, a rock hard ivory colored material very similar to Bakelite. This one was well cared for over the decades, and displays nicely, especially with its lighted slide rule dial; the Plaskon material is translucent and glows from the pilot lamp as well. I’ve gone through the electronics on this 71 year old set to allow reliable performance for years to come. . ... CONDITION, SERVICING, PERFORMANCE: The cabinet is in great shape with just one small thermal stress crack on its top panel that will hardly be noticed. Electronics have been gone through, and many checks were done of components, alignment, solder joints, wiring, etc. Filters and other capacitors, and out of tolerance resistors were replaced as well. The IF transformers were rebuilt to eliminate a troublesome static that often plagues radios from this vintage. Tuning & dial mechanism was lubed, pot was cleaned, and power switch was rewired to work safely with a pliable power cord with polarized plug. The dial cursor glides smoothly across the scale and points out stations accurately. Interior and chassis are clean with no dust build-up, no odors, and the backboard was replaced with an accurate replica that is firmly fastened. The five tube design is sensitive to even weaker stations across the AM band after an extended operation and alignment, playing with clarity and pleasant sound from the original undamaged speaker with no hum or distortion. DIMENSIONS, SHIPPING: Radio measures a compact 9.3 inches wide, stands 5.8 in. tall, and is 5.7 in. deep from front of knobs to the back panel. Old 6.5 Oz Coke bottle in one photo placed to give a sense of scale. I’ve restored and shipped well over a thousand delicate tube radios over the past 22 years on eBay. Each set gets a lot of time put into it for reliability and presentation. Radio will be sent off on the day or day after payment is received.
