Original Description:
“The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten” – Benjamin FranklinThere ARE less expensive options on eBay, and that is exactly what you would be purchasing. 21st century tech for 19th century devices! After many inquiries for a quality glass diaphragm (one that will not break easily, in other words), I have sourced an exclusive contract manufacturer that will make these to my specifications.
These perform superbly, and will NOT b...reak easily. These are the only tempered diaphragms available. Others are cheap glass. These can take the duty of coin-operated cylinder phonographs where the reproducer is nearly-literally dropped onto the carriage at the beginning of a play.
You will receive (2) diaphragms, as pictured. Because I had enough made to outlast my lifetime, I am able to offer these at an affordable price. Not all diaphragms are the same.
Will fit:Edison Automatic / Standard SpeakerGraphophone Q, B (Eagle), Heavy Eagle, and a variety of other uses. The early Q and B reproducers use a threaded retaining ring for installation, while other versions require a gasket be placed under the diaphragm, and the edges sealed with beeswax. Although the glass is tempered, it will crack under heat stress if done incorrectly. If you need assistance, please ask.
These are .007” thin. They are TEMPERED GLASS, which means that they can take slightly more rough handling than the original Edison diaphragms, BUT THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY WON’T BREAK.
These are excellent for reproduction of sound, but NOT thin enough to allow efficient recording of sound, so I do not suggest they be used in recorders, at all. I will suggest proper adhesives to use as well to attach the diaphragm eyelet. Super glue (CA glue) will NOT work. JB Weld will NOT work. Epoxy will NOT WORK. Shellac flake....WILL NOT WORK. Beeswax....will NOT WORK. Stratena glue is no longer manufactured, but I have an excellent suggested alternative. If you need a replacement diaphragm eyelet....again, please ask about them. I am Wyatt Markus, and my unique and highly specialized restoration shop restores and services phonograph reproducers and soundboxes exclusively. I offer 1st class service with a turn-around of 3-4 days, most times less than 24 hours. There ARE less expensive options out there, but that is exactly what you will be getting. I welcome your questions, and will always reply in a timely manner. *all statements, descriptors and language of intellectual conveyance in this auction were published Oct 21st, 2020 at 11:09AM*
