For your consideration, a fine micro mosaic depicting a dog set in blue lapis or glass. There are no missing tesserae in this piece and no cracks or or chips in the blue stone. Please zoom and examine the photos carefully for condition and details. Working tube hinge and clasp date this brooch to the late 1800 to early 1900. The overall brooch measures 1 13/16" x 1 2/16". The dog micro mosaic is roughly 1/...2" x 7/16". The setting is extremely ornate cut-outs and filigree. I rarely come across settings this nice in micro mosaic jewelry. I do not test metal, but my guess is it appears possibly to be gold, rolled gold or gold plated.

Occasionally I have people ask me if this is my best price for a given item. I appreciate your question. I prefer to list at my lowest possible price so my buyers are getting the best value. I prefer not to artificially inflate prices only to dicker down. I don't feel that serves anyone. Yes, this is my best price.
A brief history of micro mosaic jewelry:Wearing micro mosaic jewelry became popular during the Grand Tour period (17th - 19th Century). Members of rich European families would travel around Europe, taking in the sights and cultures of different countries. Italy was a very popular tourist spot as it had a long and prestigious history in arts and culture - a favorite subject in aristocratic circles. It was also a famous glass producer, and Italian craftsmen quickly turned their glass making skills to making stunning miniature micro mosaic pictures for their rich visitors. Flowers were a very popular subject. Each piece of tesserae (little tile pieces) was hand cut by the artist and set in place with tweezers. No two micro mosaic pieces are the same. You are buying a little piece of history that is truly a one of a kind!
