NATIVE GOLD QUARTZ SPECIMEN from the MOTHER LODE
Ruler is 1/4" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter. Specimen weight: 139 Grains (Troy) - 9 Gram Size: 25.2X24.8X14 mm
Check out this metal-stone pebble from the Sierra Nevada Mtns. A Wicked large clump of yellow gold livens up this partially orange-stained rock. The host quartz is white. I guarantee the gold inclusions are a natural occu...rrence. Back when placer-mining was my full time vocation, the dream was some day to find a desert wash full of gold quartz like this. Only on occasion did I detect, dry-wash, or dredge up specimens containing quartz, calcite, or carbonate gangue/matrix. Those were days of celebration. What I do now is acquire native gold specimens through the minerals and mining community and pass them on to discriminating collectors. All my specimens show visible gold and are authentic gold nuggets or gold quartz specimens.

I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins of gold quartz. This specimen comes from one of the many vein systems sourcing the immense placer deposits of the Sierra Nevada Mtns, the famed Mother Lode. HELPING A FRIEND DIG A HOLESeveral years past, a friend from Sioux Falls persuaded me to
help him dig a hole. His contention was that a Spanish treasure lay buried at a specific site he had metal detected
and I later divined. Mind you, this was the second excavation attempted at treasure site X. We went down five feet digging a pine box-sized hole and, as on his first attempt, hit the same impervious rock formation where only heavy
equipment or blasting could have broken through. We stopped, had a bite of lunch, detected and doused our pit as before,
then refilled the hole. My buddy decided those clever Spaniards must have dug a horizontal tunnel from another portal
and the treasure chamber was some distance below the impenetrable rock formation. I concluded there should be a moral to such a story. Even though you don't think anything's buried there, sometimes it's fun just to help a friend dig a hole.
