A very fine mid 17th century Dutch Heemskerk candlestick. Of the "ridged ball" type, it's made of a soft, golden colored alloy, was cast in four parts and peened together. The socket has two round lateral extraction holes, next to which can be seen each end of the tiny iron pin that held the clay core in place allowing the socket to be cast hollow. The underside on the base is beautifully turned, including shaping of the peened extension. These features are what you want to se...e in an early stick like this. It measures 9 1/4" tall and is in superb condition with just a few very minor dings and signs of wear and handling over the years. It's tight and stands straight. A beautiful example, being offered with a fair starting price.
