"Burnett Ltd"
"The Joey"
Tinplate Bi-Plane.
This fabulous tinplate bi-plane was manufactured by "Burnett Ltd" of London, England.
The company was founded in 1914 by F. Burnett and E. Satchwell. In 1939 it ran into financial difficulties, and its tooling was acquired by Chad Valley.
This "Joey" Bi plane was originally produced by "R. Joseph and Co.", the stock of planes were bought by "Burnett" in 1925, following a takeover, and sold them with the adddition of RAF roundels with their name and logo. The bi-plane has retained much of its' bronze alumininum paint, however, there are areas of paint loss and the usual scuffs, scratches and marks that you would associate with a played with item of this age.
I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.
The wings have their original paper RAF roundels to the top and bottom of the wings, one roundel underneath the wing has little damage, all of them have "Burnett Limited London, Made in England" as well as the logo.
The wings have there bolted struts, one side is a little loose.
The pilot is still present, as is the propellor, this revolves as it should.
The wheels all revolve well. The plane measures 37 cm (14 1/2 inches) long and 24 cm (9 1/2 inches) wide.
