This pretty little (2in long) knife was found in a cultivated field near Erie Kansas on Canville Creek. Canville Creek makes its confluence with the Neosho River just west of Erie (37.5641 -95.2958). It was named for A. B. Canville who settled along its banks in 1847. A.B.... could have been scalped by this very knife. Ok, I doubt it but.... No. There's no way. This knife is much older than A.B. A.B. was a courageous man, and I give him due respect. It's fitting we remember him via naming a creek after him. Although.... I'm inclined to think this creek probably had a name, long before A.B. settled there. It was probably some name A.B. couldn't pronounce without bringing chuckles from the natives, so "Canville" creek it became and remained.
