Antique TIFFANY STUDIOS Pen Tray - Bronze "Pine Needle" Glass/Metal ArtThis original Tiffany Studios pen tray was part of a desk setup in the early 1900's. It is made of favrile slag glass, gilded with intricate bronze. The "1004" numbering designation refers to the Tiffany inventory catalogue, and indicates both the item and the style. The metal has an aged dark patina, as can be seen in the pictures. The pen tray is about 10" inches long and 3 inches wide.&nbs...p; A wonderful piece of art history.
About Favrile Glass:Favrile glass is a type of iridescent art glass developed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. He patented this process in 1894 and first produced the glass for manufacture in 1896 in Queens, New York. It differs from most iridescent glasses because the color is ingrained in the glass itself, as well as having distinctive coloring. Tiffany won a grand prize at the 1900 Paris Exposition for his Favrile glass.
