A beautifully modeled bisque boy of yesteryear, with great attention to detail, fine Old German workmanship. He is wearing spats, knickers, sweater, hat, and brown gloves; he rides his wood sled down a snowy hill. His pose is remarkably accurate - he leans back a bit in his sled and lifts his feet as he steers his sled down the snowy hill. With this wonderful pose, he would look great on a h...ill in a snow baby display.
With original string threaded through holes in hands. Glued to original wood sled. He was made to fit his sled. Rare! He is unique, I've never seen him anywhere else; he was inherited from the collection of a German relative.The quality German craftsmanship on these old toys never ceases to amaze me - this sled is not glued or tacked together, instead it actually has tiny, precisely cut mortise and tenon joints, like you'd find on a good piece of furniture- this is not mass production, this is hand made with pride in workmanship:
A little treasure from my private collection. Rare piece never to market before.Usually hangs on my Christmas tree; I use a bit of invisible jewelry cord and he hangs quite nicely. He is 4" long x 4” tall.Marked with impressed numbers to lower back.
Condition- Excellent; tiny bit of paint loss.Care: Some of these old German novelty pieces were cold painted or only lightly fired so you should avoid water. I dust them with a soft paint brush, and if there is soiling, they can be cleaned gently with a white eraser.
