Trent Tile Co., dating from the 19th century, and located in Philadelphia, PA, made some of the finest of American made fireplace majolica tiles, and the figural and pictorial ones are the best and most desirable. This one is of a stunning cherry tree in blossum, in virtually perfect condition except for a flea bite on the upper right hand corner (please examine photos carefully).
Though not marked, as I recall almost all the tiles I am listing came out of an old Denver... mansion from the late 1800s and several are marked Trent and several have maker's marks obscured by a thin residue of mortar. So I am not positive that this is a Trent tile, but nonetheless it is a quality and beautiful tile.
I would frame it if I were keeping my tile collection any longer; I have had them for 30 plus years and took them out of a Denver Square home that was slated to be demolished. It was built in 1890. I will soon have others for sale from the same house if you care to check out my other listings.
The tile is 6 inches square and has very light crazing, lighter than I would expect of majolica, where it is to be expected of lead-based high glazed majolica pottery. And the colors are consistent and lovely to be sure, comprised of shades of reddish, pinkish brown leaning to reddish, and cream. The overall effect is amazing and the condition is too. There is very little, if any, glaze loss and no damage that I can see. Please examine photos carefully. Wonderful piece ! Wonderful tile!International Buyers: please email for shipping costs . Please tell me exactly where you want it shipped. Thanks.
