The ...blade represents the opportunity to own a gendaito katana by the well-known WW2swordsmith Yoshu Hisatsugu in highend Shin Gunto mounts with a tasselon the handle. The blade is in MINTYcondition and the mountings are in NearMINT condition. It is a healthy sword and has a blade length of 27.25inches (69cm). It shows a well-grained itamehada that mixes with a running masamehada. The hamon is an expertly crafted Soshu-style gunome midare hamon that is present the length of the blade endingin a kaen boshi with streaking nie.The hamon features many hataraki including sunagashi, ashi, yo, and yubashiri.The blade is signed YoshuJu Hisatsugu Saku Kore and dated ShowaJyu Hachi Nen Shi Gatsu Hi, or a lucky day in April 1943. Hisatsugu was a well-known WW2 eraswordsmith known for making Gendaito, orswords forged using traditional materials and techniques, and was a member ofthe Rikugun Jumei Tosho. He was a student under Takahashi Yoshimune and hisswords are highly regarded.The mountings are high end Type98 Shin Gunto and in Near MINTcondition. The tsuka is silk-cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. There isno fraying. A company grade officer’s blue/brown tassel is attached to the tsuka. The tsuba is classic WW2 with sixaccompanying metal seppas. The saya (scabbard) is green painted metal. The metalsaya shows a few small spots of rust, retaining roughly 96-98% original finish. The locking mechanism is present. The blade alsocomes with a wooden shirasaya to protect its recent polish. The shirasaya is inNear MINT condition. Theblade is in MINTY condition. Ithas been professionally restored with a high-grade polish. There are no nicks, littleto no rust, and very few scratches along the blades length. There are no majorflaws like hagire.Given the high-qualitycraftsmanship, reputation of the swordsmith, and outstanding condition, I highly recommend this piece to acollector of WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms and additional items: This item is original and not aknockoff or fake.
