I am helping to liquidate my fathers extensive collection of artifacts. Please see the pics for details. If you have any questions, or think I can enhance or correct a description, I'd really like to hear from you.
I haven't mentioned "Field 34" as often as some of the other sites that my father pounded over the years. Field 34 is located 5 miles east of Chanute on Big Creek, Google Earth (37.681637, -95.352526). My father found "parts" of this lance head in Field 34 on separate occ...asions and was able to reconstruct the point in the summer of 1972. When was "Watergate"? Doesn't matter. This point is still missing a tiny shard off of one "ear". Please see the pics for details. It has a striking "Barry" type profile, which would put it Middle Archaic, 5000 years BP, if that's a correct type. It's pretty well made from obviously a skilled knapper, considering the rough texture of the rather poor (grainy and somewhat porous) flint quality.
