HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!PLEASE NOTE: We are cutting back significantly on the number and dollar value of the items listed in our Weekly eBay Auctions that end December 21th and December 28th – we usually do this each year in order to be able to spend some time with friends and family over the Holiday Season. Well… this year is a bit different.
Like many of you, we will not be seeing our loved ones this Christmas… There won’t be any family around the tree o...pening presents on Christmas morning and there won’t be much of a New Year’s celebration… We are foregoing the gatherings this year because, as Charles Dickens told us, the true meaning of Christmas involves caring for and about our fellow man. By Christmas day over 320, 000 fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, grandmothers, grandfathers, friends and strangers will have been taken from us all by this horrific Pandemic and the very least we can do is protect others from dying by staying home and not contributing to the suffering of our fellow man by contributing to the spread of the virus. Next Christmas will come soon enough and it will be THE MOST JOYOUS EVER!!! Until then we can give up a few small pleasures to save a life or two.
We are exceptionally grateful to all of our regular customers for their interest and support these past 22+ years on eBay and we wish every one of you a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season!!
In all those years we have never asked you, our friends, to do anything special during the Holiday Season but this year we are making an exception – PLEASE – Stay Home – Be Safe – This Too Shall Pass and we will all meet on the other side!!!MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!Rare and original, ca1930’s Native American Northern Plains Indian Bead Decorated Buffalo Hide Rosette Teepee Ornament. This outstanding, early 20th century Teepee Ornament measures approx. 3” in diameter and has a thick, parflesch buffalo hide backing.
This wonderful Plains Indian Rosette / Teepee Ornament is made of a hide substrate covered with a heavy, muslin fabric cover. It features a central star design surrounded by concentric circles using multi-colored, glass seed beads. The Rosette has a very thick, parflesche backing that appears to be buffalo hide and may be a “re-purposing” of an earlier piece of parflesch.
This type of external Teepee Ornament was used by various Plains Indian Tribes but most especially the Arapaho and the Cheyenne. They were usually arranged in horizontal circles and the Ornaments carry significant cultural and tribal significance.
This rare and very beautiful, ca1930’s Plains Indian Bead Decorated Rosette Teepee Ornament is in very good condition. The muslin and hide substrates are intact and sound with some minor wear to the visible edges of the muslin. The parflesch backing is sound and intact and very well preserved and, as stated above, may be a re-purposed piece of hide from some earlier item. The beadwork is very attractive and generally well preserved with some loss to the outer border as can be seen in the scans below.
