Late 18th century linen and wool work sampler by Agnes Caldwell aged 11 - 1792. This sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper and middle sections of the linen are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the lower section is stitched with three rows of sets of family initials followed by Agnes' name, her age - A.11 - and the date '92 with sets of family initials around them.The linen has overall, quite dark discoloura...tion consistent with its age and the colours of the wool are good with the odd stitch missing here and there. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Agnes first stitched it. Measures 7" x 17 1/2"
