This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Hattori Tantosho saku 服部鍛刀所作, Hattori Yoritaka kore sotsuba 服部頼隆之埣刃, dated "Showa Jukyu-nen Fujihana tsuki (May, 1944) 昭和十九年藤花月", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period made blade. Yoritaka`s real name is Enomoto Yoshiichi, born in 1908, studied under Gassan Sadakatsu, later changed the s...word smith name to Yoriyoshi. Yoriyoshi lived in Mishima city, Shizuoka prefecture, made swords during WWll time and after the war sa a Gendai smith, listed in John Slough`s book page 195 and rated 1 Million yen. The blade is traditional hand forged, in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is attractive gunome-choji with nie active temper and has deep temper at the point. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is metal scabbard, shows tiny lacquer loss but no bend, no dent and in near mint condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose also in mint condition. Lock mechanism works fine. It measures 24+7/8" tip to the guard, 24" cutting edge, 1+1/8" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 39" in mountings.
