Up for sale is a great piece of American ingenuity. This is an antique Caligraph No.2 Typewriter circa 1880's serial number 23227. The typewriter would be a great addition to any collection as well as a restoration candidate. It could also simply be an antique to display in a shop or restaurant to add some historical ambiance. The machine is in good condition with the applique label still intact and the gold pin striping visible on most of the chassis. All of the original keys are... intact with the letters clearly visible. There is a ribbon installed but I don't know if its original. I have not tried to type on a piece of paper with it as it has been a display gem for me in my home. There are 2 known mechanical flaws as you might expect some with a 140 yr. old machine. The main spring for the carriage return is broken as it often is on these typewriters and the letter S control wood slat is chipped right at the front underside of the machine. Neither of these flaws affect the visual displaying of the typewriter as they are on the underside of the machine.I'm sure the buyer will enjoy it as much as I have over the years as it is a true piece of early American engineering. The item is sold as is. No returns. Buyer pays shipping. No international shipping.
