This amplifier was updated and professionally rebuilt with all the electrolytic capacitors replaced with JJ and Sprague Atom. The same goes for the resistors and capacitors replaced with high-quality parts. The back panel updated with an acrylic board, all the rusty RCA connectors and spea...ker binding posts replaced high-quality gold-plated ones.
The LK-72 is a preamp/power amplifier. Near the front are the preamp tubes, four 12AX7 tubes: two for the phono, and another for the line levels. Right behind the 12AX7s are the tubes for the amplifier, two 6GH8s, and four 7591 output tubes. The amp also employs a 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier tube. At the back are the two large and heavy output transformers. The arrangement is well-organized and elegant in its horizontal symmetry.
The LK-72 offers separate treble and bass controls, derived center channel output level, stereo selector, and input selector. These controls use brown cylindrical knobs with gold edging to match the brown-gold faceplate. A slide switch is supplied for equalization (RIAA or NAB Tape), scratch filter, and volume loudness. The chassis is made of aluminum for better head dissipation. The amplifier is rated at 35 watts per channel (RMS) and sounds rich, warm, a classic tube sound, with great sonics. Scott wound their transformers in-house and the quality of the iron is excellent. The transformers are the key to high quality sound. No hum.The bottom plate is included, there is no upper case.
